Does Car Aide AI actually work offline?

Yes. The AI model (~770 MB) downloads once when you first enable AI Chat, then runs entirely on your device. Warning lights, DTC codes, and guided triage work offline from the moment you install.

The AI model download is stuck or failing.

Ensure you have a stable Wi-Fi connection and at least 1.5 GB of free storage. If it still fails, go to Settings → AI → Disable AI, then tap "Initialize AI" again. If the problem persists, email us with your device model and iOS/Android version.

Is the app really free? What's the catch?

No catch. Every feature is free for everyone — warning light ID, DTC lookup, AI chat, voice input, history. No accounts, no subscriptions, no Pro tier.

Why is the AI chat limited to 10 messages every 4 hours?

The AI runs entirely on your device, but it's still resource-intensive. The rolling 4-hour window keeps the app responsive and battery-friendly. When you reach the limit, the app shows a countdown to your next available message.

Voice input isn't working / gets cut off.

Voice input uses your device's built-in speech recognition. Make sure the app has microphone and speech recognition permissions (iOS: Settings → Car Aide AI). Speak clearly and hold the mic button for the full duration of your sentence.

Is the AI's diagnosis reliable enough to trust?

Car Aide AI is a reference tool, not a replacement for a qualified mechanic. Use it to narrow down likely causes and understand what's happening, but always consult a licensed technician for repairs — especially for anything safety-related. See our Terms of Service for details.

Does Car Aide AI collect my data?

No. We don't require an account. Chat history, diagnosis history, and settings are stored only on your device. The AI processes your questions on-device — nothing is sent to our servers. Read our full Privacy Policy.

How do I clear my chat or diagnosis history?

In the AI Chat screen, tap the reset icon in the header to clear messages. To clear everything, uninstall the app — this removes all locally stored data.

I found a bug. How do I report it?

Email support@caraideai.com with the following: device model, OS version, app version (Settings → bottom of screen), and steps to reproduce. Screenshots help.
